Public Service
Nearly 40 percent of public safety workers do not sleep the recommended seven hours every night. However, that figure represents several occupations in the public service field, so it doesn’t necessarily paint the entire picture.
Firefighters are the ones who suffer the most, with nearly 46 percent of them struggling to get quality sleep.
This is a dangerous finding because it tells us that almost half of the firefighters may not be mentally focused because they feel exhausted.
Police officers can sleep better than firefighters, with only 40 percent saying they struggle with healthy sleeping habits.
Regardless of which field sleeps better, the lack of judgment from being tired may lead to unfortunate consequences.
Managers
While there are advantages to rising the ranks, one drawback of becoming a leader is the lack of sleep that comes with it. Roughly half of those in management use sleeping aids to help them go to bed at night, and more than half depend on caffeine to get through their working day.
However, most managers have trouble sleeping because they log 50–60 hours each week. It’s challenging to find time to sleep when you are always working, especially in an industry with no set hours.
Production Workers
Another profession with nearly half of its workers sleeping less than seven hours a night is production workers. 49.6 percent of all factories, reactor, and system operators acknowledged they have complications getting shut-eye, potentially hurting their job performance.
Struggling with your performance can be troublesome because of the dangers of the job. Any operation around heavy machinery or hazardous chemicals when zoning out could have grave implications.
Plus, getting enough sleep can benefit your mental health, so it’s advantageous for everyone to get some quality sleep when they can.
Nurses
Nurses sleep the least, with nearly 55 percent averaging less than five hours each night. Nurses are frequently obliged to work prolonged shifts, making it difficult to maintain a normal sleep routine.
