The welding industry is constantly growing and needs quality candidates. There isn’t a better time to dive headfirst into this industry with aging laborers approaching retirement. However, there are many directions you can take, so learning the different types of welding certifications you can earn can help guide your way.

Certified Welder

A CW earns accreditation via assessments that result in transfer credits. The certification has no requirements, and you may qualify to be a certified welder at any American Welding Society facility worldwide.

The certified welder program evaluates welding abilities in various welding methods such as steel, oil pipelines, and sheet metal.

Certified Welding Educator

Having a career as an instructor is rewarding, especially when you become a certified welding educator. As a CWE, you develop and facilitate lessons that better prepare the future welders of the world. It’s best to have plenty of experience for this role, considering you need a minimum of five years.

Certified Welding Inspector

This qualification proves you can be a leader and have a high degree of ability. The CWI certification may help welders gain job stability, progress their careers, and earn more money.

A CWI certification can help you maintain stability in your profession by allowing you to collaborate with project managers to check welding work. CWIs can also assist other welding experts in obtaining certification.

It’s a challenge to receive this credential because you must pass three comprehensive exams, each lasting approximately two hours.

Certified Radiographic Interpreter

Radiographic interpreters must be competent to examine radiographic media while evaluating weldments and surrounding base metal. Interested parties must have a high school education, one year of experience in radiography, and pass a near-vision examination before they begin.

Certified Resistance Welding Technician

Resistance welding is a highly sought-after field, and certification demonstrates welders’ advanced capabilities in resistance procedures. You can find a resistance welder working on vehicles, appliances, and items that contain wire.

The CRWT test validates a resistance technician’s competence to perform resistance welding procedures and their grasp of resistance concepts and the profession.

Certified Welding Engineer

A certified welding engineer is involved in the process of developing welding plans and techniques, as well as doing the welding task itself.

The CWE examination is in four separate sections that cover the principles of science and welding. To get the certification, applicants must complete all sections with at least a 60 percent for each portion.

Certified Welding Supervisor

Becoming a supervisor is the granddaddy of all welding certifications.  The qualification is excellent for welding supervisors with quality-assurance and problem-solving expertise. CWS certificates may be a goal for those who have advanced to management roles in the profession.

To be eligible for the CWS, candidates must have had a CWI certification for six of the preceding eight years before taking the CWS test. Additionally, you must have at least 15 years of relevant job experience. The exam has two sections that cover both technical and administrative principles.

Knowing the different types of welding certifications you can earn proves just how many opportunities a prospective welder has available. There is no shortage of jobs you can explore as long as you work hard.
