As a business owner, you don’t want to create an environment that’s filled with tension and anxiety. To build a positive work atmosphere, there are a few things you’ll want to remember to do.
Lead by Example
In this type of scenario, it’s not fair to tell your employees to do as you say, but not as you do. In a lot of ways, you have the power to set the tone of the office. If it doesn’t come naturally to you, it’s going to take a level of discipline and emotional maturity. Make it a point to greet your employees, smile, ask about their weekends and show interest in what matters to them.
Invite Motivational Speakers in
On Monday mornings, many people dread coming into work. Change the work culture by making sure that Mondays are amazing in the office. Hire a coach, minister or motivational speaker to come in and encourage your employees to put their best foot forward. Serve a light breakfast as this could help your employees feel a lot better about their work day.
Facilitate Fun Group Activities
It’s easier to work with people when you actually like them. Granted, it’s understood that everyone won’t hold the desire to sing Kumbaya and become best friends forever. However, as long as you facilitate a few team building activities, this will help foster a sense of community within the workplace. Consider doing an escape room, like Go Dream, followed by dinner. Consider hosting a company picnic or a company game night. Try doing activities like these once a quarter and see what happens.
Emphasize the Visual Aspect
Most people fall in love with what they see. First impressions are lasting impressions. Become intentional about creating a bright, airy office environment. Natural elements such as plants, sunlight and fresh air really help. Choose stimulating colors for the wall paint and office decor. Consider working with an interior designer who can help your office look more exciting and conducive to a great work day.
These four steps will take time. Be patient and allow a gradual change to happen. When you’re dealing with people’s emotions, understand that everyone won’t always be on the same wavelength. However, as long as you remain consistent and committed to the positive change, your company will experience the impact.
