Company Party: Great Ideas to Make Your Event go Over the Top

Company Party: Great Ideas to Make Your Event go Over the Top
  • Opening Intro -

Summer is here and it's the time of year for those annual company parties.

The workplace is fast becoming a place for celebration and socializing given the amount of time most people spend at their job and an increased desire to develop a sense of community with employees.

A company party is a chance to connect across departments, get to know other coworkers and their families, and relax with friends. If you’re in charge of your next big company bash, how are you going to make it an event to remember?

Decorations

The fastest way to go broke planning your party is to try and turn your conference room into a fantasyland. Extravagant decorations can be expensive and who wants to party in a conference room? Go outdoors. Reserve a park or find a good Mills Fence contractor to set apart a space just for your event. Get some good lighting and host your party during the evening when it’s a bit cooler. Let nature be your decorator and you’ll be trading in stress and expense for a better view.

Invitations

From the moment your invites go out, your party is underway. Send them out so people have enough notice and can set aside the day. Make the invitation just as much fun as the party itself. This is where you establish your theme, so if you want to make the event about baseball, spaceships, or cabaret dancing, this is where you start. Try to use electronic invitations if you can, which can cut down on printing expenses right off the bat. Set up a private social media site to accept RSVPs, and consider an activity of some kind with your invitations: a silly name contest, a mystery game, or a gate lottery are all easy and fun. Set the tone for the party and get everyone excited about coming.

Party Games

When it comes to company parties, you’ll want to try to include at least one icebreaker, as most people are sometimes anxious about attending these kinds of gatherings. Try things like masks, charades-type group activities or, if it’s a singles group, themed couples games. Starting out with the food is also a great way to get people mingling and talking. Set it up buffet style, or as an assembly line to the grill.

If you have some budget set aside, party games and attractions is where you’ll want to spend it if you can. You can choose to go all out by hiring carnival rides or maybe more low key like renting space at the public pool. Even setting up an obstacle course race could be an option if a lot of employees have families or young kids.

Treasure

Believe it or not, there are tons of ways to send everyone at your party home with something fun without spending a dime. A good place to start is your local business community. Almost every restaurant has a family package deal they would love to give away. Ice cream shops always have specials going. Splurge on a $50 gift card to a general-purpose shop of some kind (Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, Netflix) as a grand prize. You might have leftover branded merchandise to give out as prizes and free advertising for you. Get a good selection of those freebies together and give them away to your guests as prizes. Treasure is always fun!

Putting a fun company party together doesn’t have to be a chore. You just have to know where to spend smart and what kinds of themes your employees will enjoy. With a few shortcuts and some smart planning, you can put together a party to remember and keep everyone happy.
