By the time you are done reading, you will know everything you need to about the different types of rope.

Natural

This specific type of rope is made from environmentally-friendly products. Absolutely no chemical byproducts are used when this type of rope is manufactured.

Basically, it is made up of hemp, sisal, cotton, and other natural fibers. This type of rope is durable and strong; however, it is important to note that it can be damaged easily by water, mildew, mold, and other elements.

UV rays and high heat can also damage this specific rope type. Landscaping is one of the most common uses for natural rope.

Synthetic

Synthetic rope has a longer life expectancy than other types of ropes due to its makeup. Generally, this specific type of rope is made out of products such as nylon, polypropylene, and polyester.

This strong makeup is one of the reasons why this rope is so common. The fact that synthetic ropes are also great for outdoor use because they don’t sustain damage as easily is another benefit.

Wire Rope

Wire rope consists of several strands of metal wire that are twisted together to form one solid rope. It is extremely strong and can be used for a variety of things.

Specifically, it is sometimes used for rigging over the use of chains. If you need to move an extremely heavy object, wire rope might be the way to go.

Construction Rope

There are several different types of ropes used in construction. There are single-braid ropes which are also known as “solid braid” and are a great option for use with blocks and pulleys.

Plaited rope is another option, which is known for its flexibility. This twisted rope is often used for tow lines or dock lines. It is less flexible than other types of rope. For an extremely strong and durable option, there is the double-braid. And last but certainly not least, you have the hollow rope, which has an empty center and is very easy to splice.

Please note that these are some of the most common construction ropes, but this list is not all-encompassing.

Polyester

This rope is often considered an “all-purpose rope” that can be used for a variety of applications. It is tough, can withstand being outdoors, and can fight off the damages that come with rotting, mold, and fading. This is one of the most commonly bought rope types.
