Your future employer will likely provide you with some of the items in this list, but in case they don’t, you’ll want to know what to acquire and use to keep yourself safe.
That’s why we’re bringing you our list of the essential equipment you’ll need for an industrial job.
Eye and Ear Protection
Your eyes and ears are probably the most important parts of your body to protect; if something were to happen to them, you would likely not be able to perform your job anymore. Not all jobs will require this type of protection, but it never hurts to be safe when working around sharp objects or loud machines.
The best choice for standard eye protection is safety goggles, but if you want full facial coverage, you’ll want to get a face shield. For welders, a welding helmet is going to be your go-to choice.
Ear protection is a little more straightforward. Noise-reduction earmuffs or earplugs will benefit anyone who works around loud machinery.
A Hard Hat
Your employer will provide you with a hard hat if you will be working around objects that could fall at any point. However, if your role doesn’t have you working around fall hazards regularly, you may not receive a company hard hat.
Getting one of your own would be a good idea, just in case you ever have to head into areas where head trauma might occur.
Steel-Toe Boots
Not only should you protect your head from heavy objects that have fallen, but you’ll need to keep your feet safe too. With all the heavy equipment and materials you interact with regularly, something could always fall on your foot and break it, leading to a hospital visit and time away from work.
To avoid this issue, make sure you wear steel-toe boots to any jobsite.
Durable Gloves
Regardless of whether you’re working with dangerous materials that require work gloves, it’s a good idea to have a pair on you. Since you’ll be working with your hands so much, they’re likely to hurt regardless of what you’re handling.
Even if you don’t sustain a direct injury, heavy use over time can result in dry, callused, or bruised skin. Gloves will help slow down or even stop this from happening.

Protective Clothing
Our last piece of essential equipment you’ll need for an industrial job is some form of protective clothing. It could be something as simple as a reflective vest so that people in large vehicles can see you better or something as intense as fire-resistant clothing.
Your employer will let you know what you’ll need, but they might not provide it for you. If you have never bought fire-resistant clothes before, make sure you get a good understanding of what all the labels on them mean before making a purchase.
