How To Improve the Passenger Experience in an Airport
  • Opening Intro -

You have likely flown in a plane before, so you know how exhausting the experience can be.

Although flying is the fastest way to travel, it feels like the process can take days.

You must pack and ensure the luggage weight is acceptable. You must make sure your liquids stay at a certain level unless you want to throw them in the trash. That’s not to mention all the checks you must endure with security clearing you and your belongings.

We can all agree that flying can be quite exhausting. It is sometimes the only option when we want to get from point A to point B the quickest way possible. However, there are ways that you can help improve the passenger experience in an airport.

Add Familiarity

The airport can be a point of uneasiness and anxiety for many. But one thing people love to see is a splash of familiarity. As such, consider adding food chains and popular stores people like so that they can peruse them to pass the time. Moreover, you can reflect the spirit of your local community by including food chains and stores that are more pertinent to the area. This also gives visitors passing through on a layover an opportunity to encounter the local area briefly.

Update Technology

Many would agree that the most stress-inducing point of the airport is the baggage check. No matter what, this part of traveling will always take some time and makes anyone tense. However, those sentiments can compound when your airport technology is out-of-date and not working properly.

For example, a passenger might encounter an unforeseen obstacle if their luggage is overweight. If this occurs multiple times, you might consider updating your airport baggage scale, as it might not be as accurate.

Ask for Feedback

Sometimes, there are very obvious aspects of the airport you need to improve to enhance the passenger experience. However, you do not encounter the various facets of the airport in the same way your passengers do, so you might have a blind spot. That is why you should consider prompting them for feedback as to what you could do to improve the overall experience.

Try to make this feedback center as accessible as possible so that you can reach many people, which helps you receive a wide variety of opinions. It would also help to incentivize them to give feedback, as this will also help increase engagement.

Simple Amenities

Even though we might disregard basic amenities, it can sometimes be the one thing that completely changes a passenger’s experience. Nowadays, it is more important for passengers to have access to basic amenities that allow them to stay as cleanly and hygienic as possible. That is why you should ensure that your passengers have these essentials. Offer hand sanitizer stations and make sure bathrooms and waiting areas are clean and sanitary.
