Here are some of the ways that you can go about achieving the goal of creating a safe workplace for everyone.
Size Your PPE
Having personal protective equipment (PPE) in a variety of sizes will ensure that your employees will have something that will fit them appropriately. The type of PPE that will be required depends on the industry of your employment.
For example, a laboratory uses lab coats, gloves, and safety goggles. For industrial workplaces, coveralls or more specialized PPE may be required. Have your employees try their PPE on to ensure that it fits properly before they start working.
Perform Identification Activities
Identifying hazards that exist in the workplace is another step that you’ll need to perform on a regular basis. There are certain items that you won’t be able to change about your workplace, but labeling them is a good place to start.
For example, using special identification tape around electrical boxes will let your employees know that a hazard is present that they need to take extra precautions around it. Removing clutter and keeping pathways clear will also help to prevent injuries from occurring to your employees.
Install Safeguards
Safeguards can be physical barriers that will work to prevent an injury if they’re used correctly. This could be a shield around something that may splatter or a saw guard in order to prevent injuries from occurring.
Another thing to consider when you’re investigating installing safeguard is using a form of pest control. The best solution may be that you hire a company to help mitigate the risk of experiencing a pest problem in your workplace.
Seek Input
Get input from your employees so that you can be made aware of any concerns that may exist. It’s easier to tackle something before an injury occurs instead of trying to deal with the aftermath.
Preventative actions will help to reduce lost work time and any other type of repercussions that may be a result of a workplace hazard being ignored. Look into creating a safety committee that can help you with these tasks. Attend their meetings so that you can be kept apprised on any developing situations or concerns.
