If your company is struggling with employee communication and understanding each other, looking into DiSC might be a great answer for you.

Managers and owners in all business types must have employees, but so often they find that their employees are different than themselves and don’t think like they do. This is both a benefit and a curse. The benefit is they may have a different view on something and bring new ideas to enhance the business. The curse is, they may have a different view on something.

The job of the manager, or owner, is to learn how to use each employee to their strengths. But this usually takes time. The best tool we have found to speed up the process of learning who your employee is and how to best use their skills is a behavior test called DiSC.

It is a test that helps you understand how people like to work and communicate. Are they more social and outgoing, or quiet and thoughtful, are they detail people, or get it done and fix it later people?

Here is a very basic overview of each of the dimensions.

  • D – Dominance

This is where most CEO’s will be found. They make decisions quickly, leave emotion and feelings out of it, and get to the point.

  • i – Influence

This group of people are the social people. If there are 10 of these people together, there might be 12 conversations going on a once. These are the folks you want doing your social media and answering phones.

  • S – Steadiness

These are your calm quiet types. They are very loyal and are always looking to help. If you need someone to research an issue, this is who you might turn too.

  • C – Conscientiousness

This is where you are going to find your bookkeeper or accountant. They are very detailed and exacting. They will remember details for years, as well.

other valuable tips:

When you have a large team of people it is not easy for each person to know how best to interact and communicate with each other. After taking a company through a DiSC training and making it known which dimension each employee falls into, usually, the company runs better, more efficient, and with less turnover and better employee morale.

I have seen this firsthand and know famous company owners who use this tool and even post the profile pattern outside everyone’s office, as a reminder of the best way to approach them and interact with them.

If your company is struggling with employee communication and understanding each other, looking into DiSC might be a great answer for you.
