Ultrasonic Techniques

While working in the oil and gas industry, there are different types of equipment that employees use that need inspections. However, some inspections require special techniques because you cannot inspect with the human eye or ear.

That’s where an ultrasonic technique comes in handy. Ultrasonic techniques use sound waves to find differences in thickness, delamination, and cracks inside equipment. It can also detect flaws in the equipment that can pose a threat to employees.


Radiography is an inspection technique that utilizes gamma rays to examine the internal structure of equipment. Gamma rays have short wave lengths that can penetrate and travel through different types of materials like steel and metal.

Workers can perform a radiography on welds, pipelines, and pressure vessels. In addition, a radiography works on non-metal material, like concrete and ceramics.

Acoustic Emission

Similar to a radiography, acoustic emissions use waves to detect various things inside pipelines. When a fluid leak occurs, negative pressure waves move in different directions within the pipeline.

The acoustic emission can identify the exact leak location and help workers fix the leak before it spreads to other pipelines. Workers solely use acoustic emissions to identify pipeline leaks, and they can do this frequently.
