Top Tactical Items on Police Uniforms

The life of a police officer is not necessarily an easy one.

In the media, police officers are often portrayed as being unfit for the job, but you can rest assured that in real life they have to fit the bill in order to remain on duty while in service to the public.

Being in the line of duty is a huge responsibility for those who work in the police force. Having the necessary training and equipment is essential so they can serve and protect the public and themselves.

Without these pieces of equipment, they would lack the top tactical items on police uniforms that are required to do their job effectively.

Weapons

When it comes to weapons, there are usually two different tiers: lethal and non-lethal. The non-lethal should always be deployed first if possible.

Some non-lethal weapons that officers carry are maces, tasers, and batons. Although it may not be as common to see these weapons used, they’re carried to descale tense situations such as crowd control or rising violence.

The lethal weapons carried by police include pistols or shotguns. Sidearms such as pistols are for everyday carry and must be maintained as they are a part of the uniform.

Not cleaning your sidearm and unloading old rounds could cost the officer their life, so it’s imperative that they always keep them operational.

Shotguns are mostly used for opening locked doors, and in raids and when crowded rooms must be emptied. Just like their sidearms, these must be maintained, which means regular cleaning and firing to ensure they’re operating as they should.

Armor

Kevlar vests are typically worn, although some police officers choose to wear more armor as part of their uniform, depending on what they can carry and perform in.

Officers can carry optional armor such as helmets, which are made with Kevlar just like standard body armor. Other forms of high-impact armor are made with ceramic plates strong enough to withstand bullets and shotgun blasts.

Communication

It’s essential for an officer in the line of duty to have available communication with their fellow officers so they may call on them for help during times they’re not in the office. Aside from things like dispatch, they may need backup for safety reasons to complete missions.
